Reduced models for quantum gravity
As outlined in various other lectures given at this meeting, it seems that a quantum theory of gravity can only be constructed in a non perturbative manner (compare, in particular, Ashtekar’s lectures). Because of that, no calculations, as for example cross sections, decay rates and so on, can be done for the full theory of 3+1 gravity unless one has the full solution space of the quantum const...
متن کاملConformally invariant boundary conditions for dilaton gravity.
Quantum mechanical boundary conditions along a timelike line, corresponding to the origin in radial coordinates, in two-dimensional dilaton gravity coupled to N matter fields, are considered. Conformal invariance and vacuum stability severely constrain the possibilities. The simplest choice found corresponds to a nonlinear Liouville-type boundary interaction. The scattering of low-energy matter...
متن کاملGravity as Conformally Invariant Mechanical System
We show that two-dimensional (2D) AdS gravity induces on the spacetime boundary a confor-mally invariant dynamics that can be described in terms of a de Alfaro-Fubini-Furlan model coupled to an external source with conformal dimension two. The external source encodes the information about the gauge symmetries of the 2D gravity system. Alternatively, there exists a description in terms of a mech...
متن کاملConformally Flat Spherically Symmetric Cosmological Models-revisited
Conformally flat spherically symmetric cosmological models representing a charged perfect fluid as well as a bulk viscous fluid distribution have been obtained. The cosmological constant Λ is found positive and is a decreasing function of time which is consistent with the recent supernovae observations. The physical and geometrical properties of the models are discussed.
متن کاملHigher derivative quantum gravity with torsion in the conformally self-dual limit
The path integral for higher-derivative quantum gravity with torsion is considered. Applying the methods of two-dimensional quantum gravity, this path integral is analyzed in the limit of conformally self-dual metrics. A scaling law for fixed-volume geometry is obtained.
